Dry Needling Level 2 is an intermediate level course that will expand upon the skills developed during DN1. Muscles from all body regions will be covered, with an emphasis on more technical and complex muscles. Structures included in this course are advanced spinal and trunk, facial, upper quarter, and lower quarter muscles. This course will include detailed anatomy review with precautions and contraindications for each technique, additional research reviews, and advancement of the clinical reasoning process for dry needling applications. Registrants must be a licensed physical therapist, osteopath, physician, or acupuncturist in their respective state within the U.S.
Prerequisites: Dry Needling Level 1 (DN1) or equivalent; prior to participation in DN2, proof of prior course completion will be required if DN1 was completed with another continuing education provider. If DN1 was completed with AdaptEd, no proof of prior course completion is required.
This course will be delivered over two 9 hour days of in-person content, and 9 hours of online pre-course content that must be completed prior to admission to the live lab dates. For successful course completion, participants must pass a written and practical exam component.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate safe and effective performance of dry needling to commonly treated intermediate complexity muscle groups in the spine and trunk, head, neck, face, upper quarter, and lower quarters, using a patient-centered clinical reasoning framework.
- Recall red and yellow flags, contraindications, and precautions related to dry needling practice for all included muscles.
- Recognize minor and major adverse events associated with dry needling to all included muscles and body regions and describe strategies to mitigate risks.
- Reflect upon implementation of dry needling with clinical case scenarios involving multiple intermediate complexity neuromusculoskeletal presentations
- Describe neurophysiological and mechanical effects of dry needling.
- Critically appraise current research concepts related to dry needling intervention.
